Judy Boone on the other hand grew impatient and agitated, eventually convincing herself that they were happier without her and leaving. Obviously the father has his faults- the largest being his sometimes explosive anger- but is nevertheless the better parent. -M.H.
I honestly believe that Judy Boone is a better parent. I think that because for one thing she didn't kill a dog, because the owner cared more about the dog than her. Yes, she left Christopher and Ed, but you have to remember that she was dealing with depression and spending time with Christopher was probably a 24 hour job. She could not handle the little or big outbursts that Christopher had and she honestly believed that they were better off without her. She quoted in one of her letters "And I remember looking at the two of you and seeing you together and thinking how you were really different with him. Much calmer. And you didn't shout at one another. And it made me so sad because it was like you didn't really need me at all. And somehow that was even worse than you and me arguing all the time because it was like I was invisible." Judy still loved Christopher and sent him his letters regularly, even though he didn't reply to any of the previous ones. She she wanted him to be a part of his life. And even in the end to the novel, she rented out a small apartment so that she and Christopher could live in it and have a chance at a new beginning.

He always takes care of Christopher and even when it is a difficult situation, he tries his best to stay calm and deal with it. In stark contrast, Judy Boone is emotional and impatient. She can't handle Christopher's outbursts and is ashamed by some of his behavior- even though he can't help it. She abandoned her husband and son and in her letters, makes excuses for her actions, instead of just admitting she was scared and couldn't handle it.
I think Ed Boone is a better parent because he cares for Christopher, he can deal with his issues and help provide a decent life for his kid. Although he has temper issues once in a blue moon, Christopher does not really take it to heart. Ed takes his son out , loves him dearly and like everyone else said he is very patient whereas Judy is ever so very impatient
