The upside-down dog on the front cover of our book is a source of confusion for us. So, we're going to try to come up with a few ideas explaining why it's upside-down. Here they are:

  1. It's possible that the dog is a symbol.
The fact it's upside down could mirror the way Christopher's life was turned upside down after he started investigating Wellington's murder.

  2. The cover of this novel shows an upside down dog but it can symbolize many things depending on the person's perspective/ opinion since we al see things differently. But also this cover may just simply mean nothing and maybe the book designer just felt like making the dog upside down. This can spark lots of discussion and is a very good question that was posted.

  3. I believe that the American cover depicting the upside-down dog is conveying the unique perspective Christopher has, one like no other. While most people just sees the animal as dead, he notes the position, the angle and the weapon. Perhaps the cover is giving the reader an inkling about how uncommon Christopher prespective really is.

  4. Like Amal said there could be many reasons to why the dog is upside down and it differs for each person. I believe that the dog is upside down, because since dogs represent loyalty, honestly, and companionship, and when Wellington was killed all those things diminished or were revealed. In the book, Christopher finds out that his mother was not loyal to his father, because she had an affair with the neighbor, we find out that Christopher's father was not honest to Christopher, because his father had told him that his mother had died because of heart problems, and in the end Christopher releases that he does not need company to succeed in life.
