Discussion Question

The Curious Bloggers use a peachy background depicting birds taking flight. How does this background fit in with Christopher Boone's story in "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time?"

  1. The background really illustrates Christopher's own growing independance, finally learning to fly on his own. It mirrors the new path that the book's protagonist is forging through an oppressive world.

  2. If you look closer you would notice that the birds are hummingbirds. To me, hummingbirds represent small ideas and concepts that posses lots of potential and power. They also symbolize flighty thoughts and frivolous ideas. Christopher is the type of person that tells you one thing and in the next moment he changes his course of thought, he is the type of person that is full of simple thoughts that nobody would have ever looked twice at. The peachy colour represents homeyness and how Christopher travels from one home to another, so that he can feel safe again.

  3. Christopher can be very random in his thinking. We don't understand the connections because he moves through them so quickly. In a way, hummingbirds are like that; flitting from one thing to the next with amazing speed, and making it hard for anyone else to follow.
Like Melissa said, you could also say that the flying birds represent Christopher's growing independence.

  4. This background represents the randomness of Christopher's thinking as my co- bloggers posted. It also represents the life cycle of a humming bird growth and independence to get its own nectar from hatching from a tiny egg; representing the journey Christopher undertook.
